Analog Capture Card

Hello Fellow Vegas Users:
Do you have any suggestions or comments in regard to analog capture cards that work well for you and are compatible with V4.0. For the last two years we have used Pinnalce's Studio 8 that came with the Pinnacle DC10 Plus PCI capture board. The card itself works great with Pinnacle, but we are just very frustrated with all the bugs and limitations Studio 8 has to offer. We recently purchased V4.0 and it appears that this device will not work for us in Vegas 4.0. If anyone has any suggestions on what analog cards they are using or if there is a way around getting the DC10Plus to work in V4 we would greatly appreciate it!

This has been brought up many times and suggest you do a search for 10+ which offers much help.

FWIW I capture my analogue footage when needed using the DC10+ card into Studio 7 then render as uncompressed AVI and import that into V4.

It has been mentioned that you can use the captured AVI file directly into V4 but I haven't been able to acheive this even with the cadr still installed and, therefore, the right codec still available.

I recommend bypassing an analog capture card all together and go with a Canopus Analog to Digital converter. Whichever Canopus device you go with (PCI card or external box), you will benefit from gauranteed A/V sinc and smaller avi files (DV AVI vs uncompressed). I use the ADVC-100 and love it, works great!

I use an ATI All In Wonder, and Their capture program. Vegas likes firewire capture, not analog. So use an external convertor or a separate analog capture program and card. Good Luck, John.

I too quit using Pinnacle S8 for editing. What a nighmare product. I do however use the card and software to capture analog video. That is the only thing I do with it. It saves the video in a folder called "captured videos" and you simply just go to this folder when using Vegas.

Thank You for the response...I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain here a liitle.
Are you using the Pinnacle DC10Plus capture card that came with Studio 8? The reason I ask is because when I open Vegas and then try to go to my Pinnacle "captured video" folder , I see my captures are there, however I have always recieved the error message "Stream Attributes could not be determined" and then Vegas will not allow me to drag the captured video file up to the video/audio tracks. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Like heehee, I use a Canopus ADVC 100 and it's rock solid. Started out with a Dazzle -- nothing but problems. Can't believe the reviews anymore. Word of mouth is best, as usual.

I haven't tried teh ADVC100 but I'll buy one when the bank balance improves.
As to the Hollywood Dazzle, I have used one, thank god I didn't own it.
If you're really persistant you can get it to work, sometimes, briefly.

eejackson. I am using their av/dv capture card. Try changing the settings in pinnacle under "capture settings" and see if you can choose a setting that is going to be compliant with Vegas. I hope it works. I know how frustrating pinnacle is!!!!

But Other reports say as long as you still have the DC 10+ Card installed the Hardware codec is still available.

This doesn't seem the case her either. I can load the resultant AVi but only audio is added to the timeline.

Purchased the Main Concept MJPEG codec and works fine

I've downloaded the demo version of the MainConcept MJPEG CODEC and, yes, I can now view the AVI produced from the DC10+ card. Small problem, though; the audio is five frames shorter than the video.

Any clues why this might be?

Also, the demo version states that a watermark will be placed on any resultant rendered file. I assume this only means if you actually use that codec for the render as I haven't got the watermark when using the mainconcept MPEG -2.

BTW, the actual codec, although installed correctly, doesn't appear with the drop down selection with the Render as... box.
