Analog capture via LANC

I have captured substantial Sony Hi-8 wedding footage (gotta start somewhere) but had dropped-frame problems with VV 3.0a. (So I used a Ulead capture program instead.) I have the 3.0c patch installed now, but in the interim I read on the net that Sony Hi-8's have a LANC plug-in (which mine has) that is an analog version of device control. Is this usable in VV3? I don't want to shell out $40 for a LANC connecting cable that doesn't work.

LAN-C is can be used if you have a capture device that supports it. For example, the (discontinued) Sony DVMC-DA2 (was $280) has LAN-C and translates DV device control commands to LAN-C, specifically for what you're wanting to do.
