Analog captures

I just purchased an HP Media Center PC, with analog and firewire inputs for capturing. Will Screenblast Movie Studio work with any analog capture card. I too was a dissatisfied Pinnacle Studio 8 and am now using Ulead Media Center Pro 7. It is a bit of over kill for what I want to do, and am now trying Sony Screenblast Movie Studio. I will be checking back often for assistance from all of you out there.

MS does capture analog quite easily. It detects your capture card automatically upon MS installation. The only drawback I see, and I have mentioned in a previous post, is that MS does not detect scenes like Studio 8 does. However, MS is hands down a better piece of software. It has not crashed once on me in the month that I have had it. The same can not be said for Studio 8, as you know.

I would add the caveat that MS3 will detect any analog card that allows itself to be detected! Pinnacle Systems writes proprietary hardware drivers that can only be used with their software. So it won’t detect the Pinnacle Deluxe card because Pinnacle doesn’t want it to. (another reason I will never buy Pinnacle hardware again) I also believe it won’t detect the Pinnacle AV/DC10 card in XP/2000 but it will in Win98/Me because those drivers are older. I may be wrong on this one as I haven’t used my DC10 card in XP yet but it did work with other software in WinMe (although it would capture but it would not print to tape). Also, MS3 might not be able to detect some USB capture devices because their hardware can only be accessed by their software so you can’t just assume any analog device will be detected and work.

JR:

I just got an email from Pinnacle Support telling me to stop mentioning Movie Studio in the Pinnacle forums <grin>...

I replied to it asking why they can respond to me about that, but never bother responding to my legitmate support requests. Needless to say, they didnt respond back.

Pinnacle is a real piece of work (for lack of better words in a public forum).

Yea, it’s unfortunate that they have time to ask you to stop but don’t have time to help you. I converted a few people over there to VideoFactory and then I just left. I try not to mention other products on their forum because its really not right but if I see someone who is really frustrated and they make their email public, I’ll send them a private email with a link to the VideoFactory/MovieStudio trial and tell them they have nothing to loose by trying it. Then I usually find them posting here. ;-)

It’s amazes me how many people over there think that all video editing software is buggy and they are content to just live with it. It makes you wonder how much free time do these people really have to be playing around with all that beta software they paid good money for?

How do I get MS3 to detect an analog card. I have analog capture on my Vaio but how do I go about using it with MS3?
