Anchoring Text

From "Generated Media", is there anyway to anchor text such that it always starts at a particular point, irrespective of the length of the text (thinking in terms of a saved setting)

At them moment, if you set the X & Y co-ords, they appear to control the centre point of the text block. I would life the first letter to always start at the same co-ordinates (being used in lower thirds).

Thanks,

Why can't you use a preset to do this?

Hi folk,

Right/Left justification doesn't anchor the starting position of the text as far as I can see; it only effects the appearance of multiplines of text.

And preset (which is what I am trying to generate) only works by anchoring the _center_ of the text block. So, if I change the length of the text in the block, the starting letter (and the rest of the text) move around.

What I am looking for is a what to control that the first letter of the first word will start at co-ords X & Y, and everthing else will follow, irrespective of whether the line is one word, or 5; similar to a word processor.

Ta,

Marks -- you seem to be right about using presets with the regular TEXT titling in Vegas. I couldn't get it work either.

But I got it to work with ProType Titler.
In PTT there is a "dot" in the center of a cirlcle in each text box. This indicates the center point around which you can rotate the text. Drag this dot to the middle handle of the left side of the text box. This becomes the center point of rotation but also acts as an anchor for that first letter. Try it. Worked for me if I'm understanding what you want to achieve. - Paul

The secret to getting this to work is in the Placement tab. If you want text to be fixed left, you cannot use the freeform placement. You must use one of the ... Left placements. So Top Left, Center Left, & Bottom Left will all anchor the text left and as you add more words the line the text will not shift position. If you want the text to be on another area of the screen, use Pan/Crop to move it into position. It's more of a quirk than a feature but it does work.
