How as it created, captured and rendered?

If it's been through a composite feed at any stage in its life would perhaps explain it. If it's created in Vegas or imported as a still try rendering at Best and also Reduce Interlace flicker.

It doesn't look like it's a composite problem though, the pixelation is very square and doesn't look like its ringing so may guess is it's happened in adigital rather than analogue domain.

It's because of the chroma information ratio in the compression you've used. Much fewer bits are used to store color information than what's used for the rest.

It's all text generator, including the diamonds. They are from a TrueType font. There are no imported media whatsoever.

Ah, maybe that's it . . Have you made a VERY large diamond from a very low font size? I've had problems in not starting with a MASSIVE font first . .only a thought. Those diamonds, what size did you start with? Try a big one, and I mean BIG something like 200 . . if possible.

Only a thought . .

Nah. It's the chroma resolution. Render to uncompressed .avi, you'll see.

That's still not going to help much even if it does fix it, unless he's got some way to PTT uncompressed. But the artifacts are HUGE, I think it's too big to be a sampling issue, maybe try rendering at Best and reduce interlace flicker although maybe it is chroma as only some colors are affected.

. . hmmm . . I'm listening . . >:(

The artifacts are huge because the resolution is so low. On 4:1:1 video at 320x240 the chroma resolution is 80x60. 80x60 in fullscreen is not going to be pretty, even if the luma is a bit better.

TorS:
Does the background need to be gray? You could possibly prevent some of the trouble areas by giving them an outline glow, or by giving the background some color. Have you tried adding a noise filter?

If the final destination is DV or DVD, it may not even be a problem.

Reduce interlace flicker was selected. But even at "best" render there was no apparent difference.
It looks good as uncompressed (so it should, at 54 MB), but even if I render to wmv from there, it's the same.
The background does not have to be grey. But it does have to be a "non-colour" white, grey or black) because of the significance of the four coloured diamonds.
The diamonds could even be another shape, if it would help. But I do think they're rather nice the way they are.
This being a logo it would be good if it could work in different formats (including wmv) but mostly it will be DVD - which, as roger suggests is at least less of a problem.

I vote for it being a chroma sampling issue. The artifacts look like 2x2 pixel size.

Nice logo, by the way! :)

Noise filter? No I havn't tried that.
Tor

Hang on, where would I get a noise filter???

Thank you very much. Would you like to see another one?

another one

No problems with that.

Smashing Logos!!!

With the chroma sampling thing getting the most votes, what would be the remedy? Obviously it is some sort of a shortcoming in the wmv format. But is that it? Nothing I can do about it?

Thanks Grazie.
Given your delicate graphical sensibility your compliments carry weight.
The first logo is for real. The other one (with the rising sun) is an experiment. I saw such a rush of letters in the opening of a Norwegian show the other day and I thought, Hey, I could do that. It is a bit of work, doing that in Vegas, but rewarding.

Torsie . . I think your simple approach to getting a superb finish is very refreshing indeed . . And . .well . .beautiful! Honest! - You've used such simple elements and Vegas' options, all your work has paid off . .

Best regards,
