animated title bar

How would I go about making a text bar come in from the side then back out again.
I made a video track and then generated media. Then I cropped it to the size however I cant seem to get the bar to move.

I realize that by cropping the bar I am really cropping the visible are rather than sizing the generated media. In a graphics program I would normally just grab the object or layer and resize it.

My next thoughts are to use P in P to move it down about 1/3 near the bottom
then animate it to move in towards the center and then back out
sort of like a bar that says
"X-Files at 11:00 on FOX"
while you are watching another show.
or football scores or stuff like that.

Someone please advise

Multiple ways (all involve keyframes):

1. Position tab on the text editing screen
2. Pan/Crop
3. Track Motion

Actually it's labeled "Placement". In the text media window you will see four little tabs near the top: Edit | Placement | Properties | Effects. Click on the Placement tab. From here you'll be able to move the text around to anywhere on (or off) the frame. Set a keyframe at the beginning of the text event with the text completey off one side of the frame. Set another keyframe near the middle of the event and move the text into the frame. Set another keyframe at the end of the event and move the text off the other side of the frame. Now as the video plays, the text will move following the path from one keyframe to the next. You can make the path as complicated as you wish.

Same principle. Place a generated media on the screen and use Pan/Crop and/or Track Motion to resize and slide the color bar.

You could also add a Push Left transition to one end and then a Push Right to the other (or visa versa depending on which way you want it to move) This makes moving everything together much easier. Often people forget you can add a transition to a stand-alone event. Just fade both ends and then drop a transition on the fade. The Pushes work real nice for bringing titles on and off the screen.
