Tried the same for comparison: Presses Cancel and rendering stopped immediately. No problem. No bug.

SInce it happens here sometimes but not always it can still be a bug. Some people can experience strange behaviour in an app and som not. Intermittent things and things that vary a lot from here to there can be bugs...

Sure.

Most likely it's a chain of things you're doing that exposes this problem. Maybe a shred of a previous crashed render of the same name, maybe a total file path that's too long (it can happen), or maybe it's a bug where the dialog is letting you type in a name but ignoring it and using an old name.

Some of your other problems are beginning to sound like corrupted memory or low system resources of some sort.

How high have you got your preview RAM set? (That's my pet bugaboo that pays off about 5% of the time)

You're coming back for so many sips at the forum that I'm thinking you need to hire someone to sit with you for the next month.

Well, all other apps are working fine here and it seems that 5D2 MOV files, 1920x1080 files and experimenting with this brings out a lot more than running "normal" smaller projects etc. Also experimenting with V9 32 / 64 etc on XP and Vista 64 brings out some stuff.

CIneform codec in V9 causes more crashes, 5D2 files on the time line causes more crashes etc. I hope that MXF and V9 vesion a will roll smoother. I think so.

But yes, not only sit *with* me. Actually site here *instead* of me and work while I go to the French Riviera for 4 weeks.

I've seen this from time to time, since Vegas 8 and 8.1, and it's not something I did specifically wrong because it doesn't happen every time, it's random. Without modifying the project in any way, this bug can appear or not. It's a bug that I can live with, but still a bug.

Sounds great! We'll have to work out a barter system :-)

Big projects eat up a lot of memory and sometimes that exposes a problem. Also, sometimes a problem will flit by so fast in a small project that you can't see it. I had that happen a bit in another unrelated application where it was going through its shutdown routine twice. No one noticed on small projects because it didn't take any time but it was VERY noticeable in huge projects.

What's your preview RAM setting in relation to your installed RAM?

VP9a will definitely fix a bunch of bugs. Don't know if that'll be enough. And then there's all the features that people don't understand how to use and report as bugs. Those will stay the same. (hmm. Gives me an idea. Maybe I should allow my friends to report MY bugs on my facebook page...)
