Annoying Sound

I went through all the steps from editing to saving the movie to my hard drive. All went well with one exception. During playback, in the very beginning of the movie there is an annoying popping sound, very short but fairly loud like a hammer hitting iron (I recorded the sound but have no way to attach the file here).
I can edit the popping sound out of the movie with VMS but can’t save the fixed movie in any other format than .vf. Does that mean I have to re-render the whole Movie? Does anyone have an idea how that sound got there in the first place? Will I lose picture quality by re-rendering?

Thanks for any help

Is the sound there when you preview the original project on the timeline? If so, edit it out there and render the file from scratch again.

If you're trying to edit the finished file then this will require a re-render. You don't mention what format the file is, but if it's DV .avi then there will be no quality lost at all and the render will be extremely fast. With most other formats there will be varying amounts of loss. It would probably be preferable to investigate my first suggestion.

Yes the file is DV .avi and the sound was not there in the original preview, so I will render the repaired file again, should be interesting to find out if the sound comes back. Btw I'm rendering in DV Architect.
Thx for you hints and help

Well, I tried everything I can think of and the sound is still there. It only appears in the rendered version but then also in the preview when I'm working on the rendered copy to get rid of that sound. I can fix it through editig and the preview is fine. It actually sounds more like a high pitched chirp, only a split second in length but quite loud. I rendered in both Vegas Movie Studio as well as in DVD Architect.

Anyone else with ideas?

Thanks
