Another External Monitor Issue ???

I searched this forum for a possible answer but came up blank although there is a lot of pertinent info on the subject. I currently use my DV camcorder as a deck to pass through and preview the timeline on my TV--works great. Now, I just picked up a JVC SR-VS20 combo DV/VHS deck. So far I have been unable to pass-thru the deck to preview on my TV (external monitor). I can capture from the deck and the capture previews on the TV while capturing and naturally I can play DV tapes and watch on TV--just can't seem to find the right combination to preview the timeline using the deck as a converter. Maybe the capabilities are not there--I never considered that!! Has anyone used the combo successfully. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Did you check in the units menu? some time the ports are set as inputs or output only as a default, you may have to change a setting to allow it. the unit has a firewire port right?

Thanks for the response. Yes, the unit does have a firewire port. It only makes sense that it should work. I will try again tonight. I'm sure it's all there somewhere. Great forum--a wealth of information.

You definitely have to set the input do DV in the deck menu. BTW, i would try a DV camcorder in the the deck DV input first, just to be shure...

Thanks guys for the suggestions. Everything is working fine now. As suggested the key was to find the right setting. Don't know how I missed it before. Tunnel vision I suppose!
