Another monitor question - again

When we were cleaning up the house to move, my wife told me to donate my four very heavy Sony 19-inch CRT's to a school and buy new LCD monitors. (I think I'll keep her).

Looking through the past years' forums postings, it looks like the Dell 2407WFP 24-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor is probably my best selection for a set of monitors.

Anyone using this monitor, pro or con? Anything newer on the market that I should consider?

I was just looking over the 24" monitor section on newegg earlier today. The Samsung had some pretty positive reviews, and you can buy them for $500. I don't know how they compare to Dell, though one reviewer said that he has used all the major brands as part of his work, and that he liked Samsung the best..

You should definitely go for (at least) 1920x1200. It gives a good and clear view over the whole Vegas interface.
Just remember, that not all graphic cards can run such a resoloution over DVI which is the only alternative for a rock sharp picture.
Having the EIZO 2410W myself (1920x1200) I was positively surprised that the Intel 945 integrated Mobo-graphicchip was strong enough for this - and even could connect to this monitor through an incredible 8 meter DVI cable (as my PC is humming along in the archive room next door).
However: after a year or so with a 24 inch Wide 1920x1200 you will probably start to think of some 2560x1600...

When it comes to LCD etc. I've found that they vary in quality and colours so I'm looking for a good "reference" monitor that will give me "the real picture" - not some "interpretation" of a monitor.

You're paying ($680 is a lot!!) for the Ikegami name as the specs leave a lot to be desired.
I'm constantly recommending the JVC TMH-150CGU 15-Inch Color Production Monitor.
It's a 750 line monitor and is only $465.00.
I've had 4 of these in student edit suites for the past 3 years and remain impressed with them.
Others on this group have bought one on my recommendation and no one has complained yet :-)

I kept my Sony production monitors, the LCD's would be for Vegas on two screens.
