Okay people . . the story so far . . . .

Liam
1 - Company "knows" that the Pyro will work, but would try if I wished, to attempt to make the MoBo f/w play ball
2 - Yes they know about the "voice" thing! And yes they dissable it! And yes they don't know why either . .

Bstanding
1 – Yes they are offering a Canopus ACEDVIO, and yes I may well ditch the PYRO in preference. I’ve asked if the Caniie can be front patched . . .well maybe but not from them .. . means fiddling about the back –BUT, maybe there is a tidier solution

Buster!
1 – You made me think about upgrading to a card that would support at least 5.1 . . .

PAW
1 - FX5200 doesn’t have a fan – heat sink
2 – Case size? 54h x 48d x 21w all cms
3 – Caddie drives . . .hmmm.. thinking on about this one . . may have at least 1 permanent 200gb drive WITH a caddie “hole” ready to go – yeah?

JR
1 – Asked about the E. The difference I understand is in the “E” intel network and non E is 3 comm – yeah?
2 – The box will be shipped working, as it should with NO “over-clocking”.

Overall the question coming back to me is will V4 actually take advantage of HT? – Tried to remember what folks had said here regarding one or more instances of V4 etc etc . . anybody wanna chime in here?

I may upgrade to 2gb RAM and go with the 3.2ghtz – yeah?

Thanks again folks,

I AM having fun with this!

Grazie

Grazie,
VV doesn't really use HT however if you run two instances off VV then both will run about the same speed.

DV rendering seems not amenable to HT although mpeg encoding is. I think VD has been optimised for HT using the Intel compiler.

Also TMPGEnc benefits fro HT.
One day I'll get a HT machine and XP.
Really would like a Tynan mobo, the 24 GBytes of RAM would be nice. Or i could buy a new car...boat...house.

Grazie,

For real pro 5.1 you need a good rig, but for your purposes you could probably use general surround sound computer speakers. (Rather than 5 matched professional audio monitors) Spot's book on Vegas as a 5.1 section, but he mentions you could do a whole book just on surround sound. If you wanted to do down the line you could upgrade later.

If you have the ACEDVIO installed in the back, can you just keep your cables attached? So that you only have the deal with the cables at the front end?

Thanks BS for the front thingy info - I'll be speaking to them in the next hour . . . will ask them.

Another thought on the audio stuff: looks like the onboard audio on the Asus mobo will support 6.1 audio. I may be a little out of my league here (I still work in mono!), but people tell me that may be sufficient for multi-channel playback only. Recording, however, may be sketchy.

On my system, I intend to use the built-in 5.1 setup for multi-channel playback (if I ever need it). So far, I use my Mia (2-channel) 24/96 card for any analog recording or mono/stereo playback, with excellent results. The M-Audio Revolution 7.1 looks pretty nice.

Audio associated with DV video comes over firewire. An ACEDVIO would give you another analog audio capture option, but you'd probably have to capture it as an AVI file and throw away the video portion.

You could always upgrade audio later if you find you need it.

BS, thanks for that. Just come off the phone from the company and YES there is 5.1 or 6.1 built in. He's just working out the speaker system that will be needed to be lopped up to it.

Canopus will do the analogue out to monitor . . they will rig this up and check. As I've already said, this company makes NLE solutions - it's their day job PLUS networks too! They are saying they can also connect up my ancient DellBoy WinME thru a network or whatever - yeah? Things are looking rosey! HA HA HA . . . . be happy for me . .

Yow Grazie,

it was the 5600 I had that made the noise, sounds like the 5200 is a different model - no fan no noise so the 5200 sounds fine.

I was asking about the case make/model not the dimensions just that I spent ages looking at the components and the case was actually a difficult but important part. If you can see the system they will build it is worth checking the case quality and overall noise levels.

Is it the Red Submarine company you are dealing with?

Lian Li cases always get a good write up although I have no personal experience but Red Sub do them, can't work out what make the others are - these people certainly seem to know thier market judging by thier catalogue.

Sounds like you are almost here - the new setup will blow you mind.

No need to worry about the removable 2 years from now a full project with media will fit on a solid state storage card the size a matchbox, if not smaller.

Cheers, PAW

PaW thanks for the reassurance . . . it's quite daunting for a non-PC-techie - yeah? At least I think I KNOW what I DON'T know . .that's good isn't it?

Yeah, the 5200 no fan no noise - No not RedSub - thought about it though . . once we get a bit further down the track I'll rumble their name here . . . . Case quality? Don't know . . .
