Hi, im having difficulty rendering files in vp17 (crashing and can't get voukoder to show up), but im benefiting from the improved realtime playback, so i would like to work in vp17 but render in vp16, is there a tool or a way for me to downgrade the file so i can open it in vp16?

Vegas had never been backwards compatible. That's because each new version will contain new or altered codes, actions etc that can's be read in an earlier version. Forward compatibility is normally not a problem however.

You'd do better to seek help to get your issue in 17 fixed rather than try to revert to old versions on new projects, which isn't possible unless you copy/paste from 17's timeline to 16, and in doing so you could lose some stuff.
Make a new thread detailing what has happened when you try to render, give us a mediainfo report on the media you are using, your system specs, and the GPU driver version you are using (as well as if it is studio or game driver if using nvidia).
In most cases render errors are caused by video driver conflicts, and either updating the GPU driver or disable GPU acceleration can many times solve the issue.
There's also Happy Otter Scripts (www.tools4vegas.com) that can offer yet another rendering alternative. It's in beta, so sign up and they'll email you the installer for free.

If it is simple project, you are lucky. Just export in xml, and import xml in another version of Vegas. I do this with vegas and sometimes ptemier.
