That would be considered a “downgrade”. MovieStudio has less functionality than Vegas 3. You would be loosing unlimited audio and video tracks, transitions and FX that Vegas has which MovieStudio doesn’t. Compositing of parent/child tracks, Print-to-Tape from the timeline, Professional vs. Express DirectX plugin’s, etc.

What do you think you would be gaining by moving to MovieStudio?

If your answer is ‘Integrated DVD authoring”, think again! People who have bought MovieStudio are already looking at buying Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 ($45) because MyDVD (which comes with MovieStudio and is packaged for FREE with many DVD burners) won’t accept MPEG2 files from MovieStudio, doesn’t support setting chapter points, and has a tendency to make coasters. (they have a forum full of unhappy users) If all you want is DVD authoring, get Ulead MovieFactory 2. If you want more control over making DVD’s than MovieFactory 2 provides, then “upgrade” to Vegas 4+DVD.

Thanksfor the info. I read somewhere that the new Movie Studio included many features of Vegas and it is easier to use, that is why I am asking. Your info is very useful

VideoFactory also included many features of Vegas. Easier to use? Maybe, but only because it is simpler so there are fewer complex things that you can do, so this could make it seem easier.
