I'm investigating the pros and cons of this device for a friend. Can anyone share any knowledge of the use of this device for transfering VHS to the hard drive for editing?
I have one. Sync of audio is a problem because it converts video and sends it via USB to the computer. Autio just passes through it with a delay then goes into your sound card. Unless the computer is running clean so there are no delays or pauses (right, with Windows, no delays?) audio gets out of sync.
Better choice would be a Dazzle 200. I also have one of these. It converts everything and it all goes at once through USB. It also reads all types of memory cards so it is an all in one, useful device. Also does video out. Dazzle has a few other models with different features. www.dazzle.com
Otherwise, use a camcorder with firewire connection and pass the video & audio through it and let teh camcorder do the conversion. I do that now and never have sync problems between video and audio. Vegas also btreaks each shot into a separate file (if you want) to make editing your videos easier.
I use VideoBus II. It handles video quite well.
I cannot say what it does with sound because
I am deaf. I am made aware that a number of
people have problems with the driver for this
device but for some strange reason, I don't
have problems with it. Well, maybe one, on all the
video editing software I have had and have, VideoBus II
asserts itself as the default transferring deivce. It doesn't bother
too much because I remember to check for this and change to my firewire
connected devices.
