anyone have experience with these VASST products?

I'm looking at two different VASST packages.

One is through Digital Juice, and for $99 I can get
FASST Start Vegas
Vegas Pro 8: Features Revealed
Mastering the ProType Titler
Getting Started with DVD Architect
Advanced DVD Architect

OTOH, VASST has 30% off their products right now, so I could pick and choose, and for around the same price could get
Mastering the ProType Titler
Advanced DVD Architect
Absolute Training Vol. 10 - Compositing 101 The Basics

The difference is, pick up Vol 10 and lose FASST Start and Vegas Pro 8.

BTW, I have Vegas Pro 9.0e. Just curious if anyone has used any of these.

I've read that the ProType Titler dvd is definitely worth it, haven't read anything about the others.

Thanks!

disclaimer: I occasionally do some work with Spot though I'm not involved in the DVD training.

I've bought most of the Vegas discs that they offer; the protype titler and DVDA discs are fantastic. The DVDA advanced disc in particular revealed some cool stuff that can be done.

<edit> I had forgotten about the compositing disc...I need to pick that up myself.

Thanks, David. Any thoughts on the "FASST Start Vegas" and
"Vegas Pro 8: Features Revealed" discs? I'll get the Protype and DVDA discs, just deciding between those other two versus the compositing disc (have you seen the compositing disc?).

Thanks!

volumes 1 and 2 in the Absolute Series go much more in depth with Vegas than either of these two titles I believe. (FASST and Features Revealed). The basics in Vegas don't change much from version to version. I believe the idea is that the two you mention would cover primarily what is new about those versions, while the volumes 1 and 2 are in depth training on the core product.

I have not seen the compositing disc but I imagine it builds even further on what is in volumes 1 and 2.

Thanks! I see they offer volumes 1-3 in a bundle now. So now I'm even more confused. :-)

I appreciate the input!

If it were me, I'd get the DJ deal, and just tack on the compositing DVD.

you spend a bit more, but for the money the deal can't be beat.

Compositing DVD is good, well worth it if you are unfamiliar with compositing in Vegas, and want to start doing more of it.

Vegas Volumes 1 and 2 are a bit older but more in-depth, so if you aren't already very familiar with Vegas you should get something like the Fasst start Vegas to guide you in your learning.

Be aware that I do some contract work for VASST, so my view may not be entirely impartial, but I'm a 5+ year vegas vet, and I'm honest, and like to help people :)

I keep getting errors then a "diagnose connection poroblems" screen in the VASST store. My connection is fine. I would like to take a look at the ProType Titler DVD and the Advanced DVDA. Anybody else having this problem?

Dave, I've used Vegas quite a bit, but am very much a noob. I bought V Pro 8 a few years ago, and upgraded to 9 in 12/2009, so that's the limit of my work in it.

BTW, regardless of which dvds I buy, I'm buying the Ultimate S Lite addon, primarily because I like to create slideshows for our Scouts Troop (for instance, we just completed Philmont again this summer, and I'm tasked with creating slideshows). I usually use Memories On TV, but I like how I can use markers in Ultimate S Lite to sync with the music, the only thing missing from MOTV.

As for the dvds, I was all set to buy these, until I read your comment :-)
the volumes 1-3 bundle, which includes dvda basics;
volume 9 for the protype titler stuff
perhaps the advanced dvda disc
perhaps the compositing disc (vol 10), although it could wait

I figured those would help me understand parent-child compositing and other items. Then I could see whether I still need disc 10.

However, I think you're saying that the two discs (FASST Start and Volume 8) would be as good as volumes 1 and 2?

Thanks again.

reberclark, I'm not having that problem at this time, but I remember running into it a few months ago

I can't remember, but I don't think parent child is discussed in too much detail in anything but the Vol. 10 DVD.

Vol. 1-3 bundle plus 9 and 10 are a good set to get, especially at this pricing, and I'd do it, but add in Fasst start Vegas if it were me.

anyway, that's just my thoughts on the matter. then you can hang on DVDA advanced till you see if it's necessary. if you order soon, the sale might even be going on by the time you get it and you can still order vol. 6 before the sale ends.

Dave, sorry to be dense, but I really appreciate the opinions of anyone who has actually used these.

So, you'd recommend I get volumes 9 (protype) and 10 (compositing). Then it's down to either
(a) vol 1-3 bundle plus Fasst Start; or
(b) the DJ bundle, which is vol 3 (basic dvda), vol 6 (advanced dvda), vol 8 (new features of Pro 8), and Fasst Start

Option (b) would be a little less expensive, since it includes Fasst Start and volume 9. In addition, it included both dvda discs. However, if volumes 1-2 are deeper than volume 8, then perhaps option a is better?

Having never used any of these, it's hard to know whether to go with vols 1-2 (plus Fasst?) or vol 8 and Fasst.

Thanks again, everyone. :-)

I would do 1 and 2 plus fasst over 8 plus fasst myself, but that DJ deal is such a good one. It's hard to say don't get it, because it's not even a package offered by any one.

I think if you've got the money, more knowledge is better than less, and I'd do the DJ deal since it comes with Volume 3, 6, 8, 9, and Fasst Start Vegas all for $99 and then get Volume 10 from VASST for an added bit of money.

Volumes 1 and 2 are good titles also though, so if you can swing them while the sale's still going on, they have good info too. Some of it all will overlap a bit, but I think you are going to be ok if you don't get them, and in very good shape if you do.
