Anyone seen this one before?

I've captured several different portions of family videos taken over the last couple of years, edited them and produced them into one video (AVI) (about 1 hour). I view the AVI and it looks great!

I Print-to-tape (my setup, PC --> Dazzle Hollywood bridge --> VCR). When I view the tape some of the sections are totally black and it turns out that those that black out are on the captured takes boundaries.

For example:
Take#: Take1, Take2, Take3, Take4, Take5, etc.
Status: Fine black Fine Fine Black, etc.

1) I re-note that viewing the AVI in the standard windows viewer (XP WindowsMediaPlayer) seems really good with no drop-outs (black sections).
2) I've defragged my HD and the AVI lookes contiguous (as viewed in the XP defrag utility).
3) No other devices are attached to 1394 other then the Dazzle.
4) The green D to A light on the Dazzle stays on the entire time indicating that the Dazzle is detecting a continuous signal.
5) No Screen saver, Antivirus, etc. utilities are running in the background.

Any clues?

Thanks

-Mike

Yup -

Except I've rendered a whole clip, which in my thinking is a brand new AVI - ie no capture boundaries.

To respond to your list of woes and "Me-Toos":-
1. Yup (I'm in WinME but preiveiw is excellent
2. Yup - HD is squeeky clean
3. Yup
4. Absolutely
5. Yup

Still I get drop-out in different places (?) when Printing To Tape. It's driving me mad!

Is the Dazzle 100% OHCI compliant?

If you have a DIGITAL camera that supports firewire (IEEE 1394 standard) I use and recommend the Siig 1394 card. Cheap, 100% compliant, never had a problem with it. http://www.siig.com/products/1394/features/1394_3PortPCI.html

If Simmerheli had a DV Camera - there would be no need for a Hollywood Bridge convertor. BB I don't understnad your question?

Thanks for your response BB.

The 1394 card IS OHCI complient. I'm pretty confident about this since I write device drivers for a profession (1394, USB 2.0, ATAPI, SCSI, etc.) and believe this card is a good card.

I also believe that I'm doing the Print-To-Tape properly because I've created AVIs in the past with this exact same setup and hardware with no problems whatsoever
(the only change is a different AVI produced from different source material, No change in Software, hardware, config, etc.).

I've even re-done this particular AVI (reproduced) and re-Printed-to-tape. I still get the blanking-out but in different spots which tells me it is not associated with any individual elements or sections of the source AVI (at least with the source material used to build the AVI created in VF).

I've posted a help request to SonicFoundry and awaiting a reply.
I'll let you all know.

Thanks again all... :-)
