i'm also thinking of upgrading my old laptop - but i'm all ears (eyes) for any suggestions regarding dell, asus, acer, lenovo, etc.,

FWIW - I just picked up a sony VAIO CW26FX from BB which basically has the same processor/memory/HD configuration (mine has a 14" 1600X900 display) and I find it works great with 9d. (trial) and my Canon DSLR files. I don't have an AVCHD camera but think you'll probably do fine with it.

ditto. i have a 23fx/r i3 win7/64 and it runs vegas 64 great, and has no problems with my canon T2i mov files.

and i hooked it up to my hdtv and watched the first season of mad men on blu-ray. yours is even more powerful. get it now, you'll love it.
