I am trying to find someone who is using Screenblast with Media Center Edition. I am having some problems and Sony tech support is pointing to the operating system.

If someone is using it please email me kgresko@adelphia.net. I would like to discuss some of my problems and see if anyone else is having the same problems and if they have solutions.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Electromen, I received your email today and responded. Just for everyones information, Electromen and I both are using Screenblast with Media Center Edition, and neither of us is able to capture or PTT with the program.

Both of us had to purchase another program to accomplish this task which is available in Screenblast, but for some reason does not work in XP Media Center Edition.

The same thing happens in Vegas 4.0 I can not use capture. I get the message

The device 'SMRT Capture' could not be opened.
Please make sure that it is turned on and not being used by another application or user

Windows XP Media Center Edition is, at it's core, simply Windows XP (a.k.a., Windows NT 5.1).

However, every MCE computer ships with some sort of capture card (because Microsoft requires it). In fact, most computers use the same cards since Microsoft has only certified a handful of cards for use with MCE. My guess is that the built-in capture card is incompatible with Vidcap.

You might want to try temporarily disabling the caputre card in the Device Manger.

<EDIT>Electromen,
Upon further research, it appears that "SMRT Capture" has something to do with the Sony Smart Capture software bundled with many Sony Vaio computres. Oh, the irony.

Anyway, there are some new capture card drivers that were released this month, are you using them?

Smrt Capture.exe is part of the Screenblast 3.0 software.

File name is sbvidcap30

In Vegas 4.0 it is vidcap40

It doesn;'t work in either program.

I have all of the latest drivers that I can find.

Is the capture card different than the video card? I have a nvidia GeFroce fx 5600 video card.

In device manager I found I legacy video capture device with properties of WDM Video for windows Capture Driver (Win32) How can I find if this is the latest driver? no version listed

I used Vegas 4.0 and Screenblast 3.0 and was able to capture when I switched from Smrt Capture to Microsoft DV and VCR. Now eveything works in both programs. In the video capture window click on video and switch to Microsoft DV and VCR.. I should mention that this option was not available until I connected my DV camera. (Sony DCR-TRV33)

To capture analog VHS tapes I use my DV camera as a coverter, so analog also works.

Microsoft DV camera and VCR in part of DirectX 8.1 and above so you may need to download the latest Directx from Microsoft.
