I found the dutch rolls sickening, nothing justified them.
SFXs were great but I would have sliced and diced the LF FXs at 2:18 so they added to the door knocks rather than been seperate elements. Explore the use of atmos and silence to create an unsettling soundscape.
I'm not a Pro by any means, but since you asked for advice here's my suggestions:
Opening text, I would have broke the sentences into three separate shots, one after another, and maybe not quite as long on the screen.
The pans you did were very nice and smooth, good job on that. (hard for me personally to do)
"scary" audio in the beginning is OK, but something about it is "too much", can't put my finger on it.
The cackling lady is too much, sounds like a cheap Halloween toy.
Coloring is nice.
Nice try on the dutch rolls, but I agree with the above post, it's too much and not necessary for this I think.
The knock and zoom to the door was good, but could have been timed better with the knocking. And I was expecting to see something scary through the peep hole, was disappointed. (would be a cool effect if you could that)
The dish rag flying up was pretty cool, but nothing really scary about it. Maybe if you had a kitchen butcher knife flying up it'd be creepier.
All in all a good try, It's hard to make something scary or creepy, everyone is so desensitized by the Hollywood horror and suspense it's difficult to creep or scare anyone these days.
I through the dutch rolls in there because I love Sam Raimi's work. a little overboard I agree... but a lot of those campy horror movies also went overboard.
The project was just an experiment to see what I could accomplish within a hours time slot with limited resources. The editing time was about 45min including color grading, sound effects and text.
All shot in natural light.
Primarily an experiment in being creative.
Quite few people I had sent this to claimed it made them jump... Mission accomplished
