apple quicktime .MOV movie files

I'm using 8.0c build 260. My .MOV files captured by my HD camcorder are not recognized in vegas pro. I can place them into my timeline, and click play. I hear the audio but there is no video shown, just a black screen.

When I search on this issue via support forum you recommend a fix that is to rename the file extension to MP4. This does not work!!!

I am almost at my wits end here. .MOV is the most popular file format in the entire world, yet you do not support it? Quicktime? Seriously?

Please tell me what to do...

Signed,

Very frustrated with Sony Vegas Pro...

QT is a container that contains various types of files, just like an AVI is. You need to determine what codec was used in the QT file. You can either use QT to determine that or Mediainfo, which is a free program. Once you do that, then we can tell you what to do to get Vegas to play the file.

You must install Quicktime Player 7.6.2 or earlier to work with Vegas Pro 8.0c.
Later versions of Quicktime will not work, since 8.0c reached its end-of-life in April, 2010.

Also, posting the information Dave requested will help if the QT version is not all that is needed.
Hope this helps.

If your HD camcorder is one of the JVC cameras that wraps XDCAM EX files in a MOV wrapper, good luck. Apple doesn't support that codec on PC (nor do they support mov wrapped HDV or AIC). My guess is it is an MPEG licensing issue, but that is just a guess. You may be able to rewrap those clips to mxf in Sony clipbrowser on a MAC, or export them from Final Cut to mxf, if you have access to it.

Vegas supports pretty much every Quicktime codec that Quicktime allows it to support.

What kind of camera are you using? Someone may be able to help if you can provide a little more info. This is a user forum, not tech support, so ranting won't get you too far. Give us the facts and chances are someone will have an answer for you.

Cheers, and welcome to the forum,

Just an FYI - http://www.oldversion.com/windows/quicktime/

Black screen with audio is most certainly a codec issue. Vegas seems to be optimized for XDCAM and uncompressed. You may want to figure out your work flow from your camera and convert your footage to XDCAM.MP4, or try something like Blackmagic's MJPEG, or AVID DNxHD. Do a scrub test by rendering 30 sec of video in each format, do some simple dissolves, then look at the playback and scrub smoothness differences between camera original on your system. The optimized codec will not drop frame rate across a dissolve under Preview Full. Rocking or scrubing the timeline cursor back and forth should not produce the "working" dots ... after the frame indicator in preview window.

First things first.
Vegas 8.0c works with Quicktime Player versions 7.6.2 and earlier.

Once that is confirmed by the OP, we can tackle codec concerns "if" and as necessary, rather than speculate.
Many thanks.
