Apple's FCP & Sony move ahead with HD....

Is FCP the preferred choice over Vegas for XDCAM HD?
I see FCP but no Vegas (I assume because Vegas is behind on the XD HD curve)
I wonder if Vegas 7 will get the same promo Apple is getting.

Perhaps FCP is the best desktop option for XDCAM HD.

If you wait approximately six to eight weeks, I"m pretty sure that Vegas will support XDCAM HD---fact is, there is no doubt in my mind. If they don't then it would be one of the stupidest things possible and I would lose faith in Vegas as a developing product. By the way, this is conjecture, but I think its conjecture based on fairly firm logic.

I think someone here posted some very firm news on that front a few months ago - that Madison had an engineer or two working with Sony's HDCAM people to make sure this got into the next rev.

Just be careful, there's difference between between 'can edit footage from' and full native support. FCP does not support MXF structures, it can suck footage from them and convert that to QT but that seems to be about it. I am basing that on complaints about how 'well' they support DVCPro HD from P2 cards. Best support comes from Avid and Edius Broadcast. Apple have made no noises about supporting MXF fully.
Will Vegas fully support MXF, guess we'll have to wait and see. By that I don't just mean suck in footage from, I mean read and WRITE MXF.
