I've assembled all of the images into the timeline and would now like to apply "fit to media" and other features across the entire track . Can I do this without having to go to each scene?
Paul, set the attributes for the first event. Then right click that event and select "copy". Select the remaining events, right click, and click "paste event attributes". All or selected attributes will be applied to those events.
Depending on what "other features" you're referring to (esp. if they are video FX), it'd probably be easier to apply them at the track level. Then you can add, adjust, and remove (or temporarily disable) them all from one place. Copy / Paste Attributes also has the nasty habit of not letting you choose which attributes to paste.
Sidenote: What do you mean by "fit to media"? Are you thinking of "Match Output / Source Ratio"?
Rob is right. Lots of ways to skin the cat. You can apply effects at the event, track or project level. You can combine many effects into a chain of effects and apply the chain to events, tracks or project.
I want them each to appear for the same length of time. ie 7 seconds. I also want a cross fade between each slide. These conditions will be applied across the timeline and I will then make individual adjustments where I feel appropriate.
Scripts can do everything you're wanting to do. They can set duration of events. They can set the amount of crossfades on events. They can apply the "Match output aspect" setting to all events. Take a look at the big scripts like Excalibur and Ultimate S if you want to see how easy these tasks (and MANY more) can be performed. Both even have a video scrapbook/photo montage feature as well!
