What happens when you DON'T apply the FX and render to MPEG?

Have you altered the MPEG settings?

Are you using a standard Vegas MPEG Template?

Please describe the way you preview the finished MPEG?

Just a shot in the "dark" here. But have you any other FX going on? If so, perhaps the order in which you apply the FX is messing with you. Try playing with the render order of the effects. (click on the little triangles to the left of the keyframe line)

I just tried to repro here. And it plays in WMP.

I don't like what you say that you always get this result. This to me seems a bit more fundamental.

Try another FX see if you can repro?

Try AVI render?

The ole mantra here is to employ Colour Correction and/or Colour Curves to boost dark material. Brightness and Contrast? I haven't used this in about 3 years to "pop" dark material. Just as a workaround use CCorrection and CCurves. You WILL get better results and maybe, just maybe it WILL preview in WMP too.

Anyways, see if you get same result with an AVI.

Thanks Grazie, It not only rendered ok to an avi but now it also is happy to render to mpeg. One of those mysteries!
I'll take your advise re colour curves etc also thanks for your help.
