Applying transitions to multiple events at once

I have a video that consists of numerous short events that I would like to apply a consistent cross fade to each event. All the events are in the timeline and I would like to simply select all of them and apply the same transition to them. Is there a simple way of doing this?

I tried the obvious, selecting all the events and selecting a transition, but it only applies it to one event.

Am I missing something obvious?

How did you "select the transition"?

If you click on the first event, shift-click the last event, and drag any transition from the Transitions tab to any of the crossfades, all selected crossfades should also be changed to that transition.

I did shift-select. There are no cross fades between the events currently, I would like to be able to apply all those at once, all exactly the same length.

To auto add crossfades, make sure the preferences are set to do that and then add them all to the timeline at once. That will automatically get them for you. If you want the events extended now, you can press the "/" key on the numeric keypad between each one but it's still a manual process. Of course scripting can easily do this - but that requires the pro version.
