Are Volume Envelopes Broken in 9.0?

InterceptPoint wrote on 5/31/2009, 7:48 AM
Run this experiment.

Open 8.1 64 bit. Add an audio track. Add a volume envelope. Add 4 points and make a simple duck. With the lock envelopes to events button on and off move the audio clip around, extend it, shorten it. Everything just works like it always has. Very intuitive.

Do the same with 9.0 and tell me if you get the same result. I don't. The envelope behavior is simply bizarre. The last point seems to be locked to the end of the clip and so it stretches and contracts as you trim the audio clip. Basically unusable if you mess with the position or length of the audio clip.

Is it just me or is it 9.0?

I don't have a 64-bit system but I can tell you that it works fine on 9.0 32-bit (XP Pro).

Hmmmmm. Any 9.0 64 bit users out there?

Seems to work in 32bit

I'm getting weird behavior in BOTH 32 and 64.

4 points placed.... lock volumes to events on

Look at the points after compressing the event a wee bit. This is happening in both 32 and 64. I would put in a ticket on it and see what they say.

This is exactly the behavior that I see. How do you put in a ticket?

I'm running Vista 64..V9 64 seems to work the same as 8.1 for me. I can get this behavior in both V9 and V8.1 with autoripple on but not with autoripple off. I'm not seeing a difference between versions regards volume envelopes if all settings are the same.

I love this forum.

xberk: "I can get this behavior in both V9 and V8.1 with autoripple on but not with autoripple off."

That it is the trick indeed. I tend to have autoripple on as a default. I just like editing that way. So the solution is TURN AUTORIPPLE OFF when you want to move/trim audio clips and have your volume envelopes behave.

Mucho gracias to xberk.

What happens if you do a manual ripple later on? Does it mung up the envelope?

I would still put a ticket in on this. It seems to me that this should not be happening with ripple on OR off.

People complain about things not getting fixed... but SCS can't fix what they don't know about.
