Arghh .. I'm Really In Need Of Assistance!

Ok .... I'll try to explain this as thoroughly as possible. I've been using VMSP about 2 years now and things have been fairly smooth going. Whenever I've gotten a bit tangled up, you fine folks have always provided me with a quick fix. For that, I thank you bunches. Here's my dilemma, I've transferred the video & audio from a vhs into the program and my client wants the audio replaced. The original audio suffers from excessive bursts of noise from interference on a wireless mic that was being used. Fortunately the audio was also recorded at the same time on cassette and does not contain the noise. I transferred the cassette audio into VMSP and lo & behold, it's out of sync due to their machine not running at the exact same speed as mine. So, I've spent hours slicing & dicing the audio track to line up with the video. Each day when I go to work on this project all of the audio that I worked on the day before is now OUT of sync again. (I hit the "save" button every 10-15 minutes just to be safe) I have hundreds of separate audio sections on this screen and now I've tried to line them up 5 times. I'm going INSANE. Your input will save me from smashing something! I realize that there is probably an easy fix to this, but at this point my brain is really muddled. I use ProTools 90% for all of my audio work and slicing/dicing & locking the audio is quite easy to do. It probably is here to, but I sure could use some guidance. Thank you in advance,

Assuming the cassette runs at a relatively constant speed, there is a vastly easier and faster way to do this.

Line up the beginning of the audio as close as you can. Find a spot near the end were you can determine how far off the sync is. Hold the Ctrl key down and drag the end of the cassette audio that far (to the left if it's too long, to the right if it's too short). With the Ctrl key held down you'll stretch the audio, similar to ProTools' rubber-banding.

yeow .... that was quick, THANK YOU! So I don't feel so stupid, why would the audio not stay in position? Other than taking WAY too long to do this, what was I doing wrong?

Could it be some unaware use of the auto ripple function?
When I am fumbling late night this function often rewards me with unexpected results.
Totally my own error, of course :-)
