ASC gets involved with video.

The American Society of Cinematographers has established a working commitee to make recommendations for standards for video. Perhaps a bit late in the day although they do seems to have a point, particularly with HD finally getting off the ground. There main concern is ensuring that a movie ends up on your TV looking roughly the same as it did on film but with such a confusing array of standards and with networks applying their own sets of rules no one can know for sure precisely how anything will turn out.
Latest mag from the ASC has the first part of a rather lengthy article on the history of color and how we perceive it.
Issue also has short article on the shooting of Pol Pots Birthday, shot on several DVX100s mostly because of space constraints on the set. That decision gets less coverage than the color that was chosen for the walls of the set which again highlights the point that what you shoot is more important than what you shoot it with.

Excellent, Bob! How many times has this little gem been shared here in this forum, only to have to such a notion poo-pooed? Kind like casting your pearls before swine, I guess.
