At wits end -- not producing deshaken clips

OK, this is my last resort. I really want this deshaker to work but I can't seem to get it to do anything. I;ve tried the vegas script in Vista and XP by adding the script to a selected - somewhat shaky - mts file and I've tried standalone virtualdub, loading an mts converted to uncompressed avi and adding deshaker as a filter. Outbound video is uncompressed in all my attempts.
In all of my tries, the program went through the first and second passes and rendered out a result -- which I can identify by the message in the video that 30 frames were trimmed off the ends.
But there seems to be no difference whatsoever in the rendered result. And I see no evidence of analysis in either of the two passes.
There's no split screen while the filter is running in virtual dub that shows me the incoming and outgoing clip.
I'm using the default settings in the deshaker dialogue.
Can anyone think of something I'm overlooking that is producing this non-result? I'd give up, but I've invested so much time I can stand to see this puzzle left unsolved.

Several years ago, I wrote an extensive guide of how to use deshaker in exactly the manner you are using it:

A GUIDE TO USING DESHAKER

I can't really add anything to that.

Thanks. I did follow that, along with a few other guides I found, including Andy's New Deshaker guide. I feel there must be some basic step I'm overlooking or getting wrong.........I just can't seem to identify what that is.

A frame pops up. In this frame right click and select i.e. 25% for the input and then 25% for the output.
Now you should be able to see the the video with a lot of white and red arrows on it for the first pass - and the deshaken video in the second.
After this the media, that you deshaked has got another suffix in the timeline - avi or what you set it to.
