You can use the "Split" command (key "S") at the marker and it will split the clips into two.

Not sure how well the splitting of mp3 works though, due to compression.

If you are moving the chunks down the timeline, with all the rest of the chunks to the right also moving down, then use ripple mode and the markers will move along with the chunks (timeline events).

To add markers that become part of the media, open in the Trimmer, add your markers, and hit the little floppy disk icon to save the markers. When you pop the clip to the timeline, the markers will show. The marker lines will toggle on and off with Shift/Ctrl/K.

I've long wished for Vegas to offer a clip-specific marker, which it doesn't.

Opening the clip in the trimmer, and inserting a marker is one work-around, but I find that "trimmer clips" are nowhere near as visible as the regular kind (maybe a script is in order to transform trimmer markers to real markers?).

What I've started doing is to rename the clips themselves with the information I would have put in a clip-specific marker (e.g., "bring the sound down here"). I've mapped the keyboard so that ALT-R will rename a clip.

Then you can either see all the clip names in the Edit Details window (active take name), or on the timeline by "showing active take information" in your preferences.

Works ok for my purposes.

Vegas 6c comes with one: Promote Media Markers
Select the media on the timeline, run the script, and you're good to go.

One more reason to upgrade ;-)

Thanks Gary.

The correct ripple mode was all I needed. I changed from 'affected tracks' to 'affected tracks, bus tracks, markers and regions'. Thanks.

I have various scripts that add markers to events, add markers where the media changes (i.e., if you have several events from the same AVI file, no marker is added), adds markers to regions, and many more. Some of these are posted at VASST, and some at jetdv's site.
