Well .. the usual way (not entirely successful .. but reasonably effective) is to reverse the phase of one of the audio track sides .. either the left side or the right side it does not matter .. but you need to do this on one side only, not both.

This will leave most of the stereo information .. but any signal (vocals) that are in both channels will cancel themselves out.

At least that's the theory ... a lot depends on how the song is mixed .. sometime is works (sometimes better than others) and other times it does not work at all.

However I'm fairly sure that VMS can not do this.
