Audio and preview problems with Canon 550D footage

hi everyone,

just started fooling around with some test footage from my new canon rebel.
I've read about the AVCHD problems often encountered in conjunction with Vegas, but I actually had none of the crashes reported so far.
Instead my audio is totally out of sync with the video, and the preview stutters like crazy as if it would skip at least 5 frames. I've tried every possible setting and also set the project properties OK. Is there a known solution?
Or should I get EPIC or wait for Vegas 10 which will apparently handle AVCHD ok?
Thanks!

I have a T2i - don't panic. You need to transcode the footage before you edit it. I use Cineform (costs $99) and I've also had good results with Vegas MXF.

I Render to a New Track using AVI - Cineform or MXF. Leave the original audio (don't re-render the audio). Ungroup the original vid track and audio, mute the old video track.

Now check for sync. If it's still off, adjust the audio track with the +/- keys on the numeric keypad, then group the original audio with the new video.

Yes, we shouldn't have to go through all that because of political (and $$) issues between, Canon, Apple and Sony. Mais, c'est la guerre...

Merci beaucoup dlion,
I just downloaded streamclip from square 5, ( it's free !) and the avid codec package. i did a batch conversion to quicktime with the avid DNxHD codec and now everything's rolling nicely.
