Audio breakup on Capture preview

Hello,

I'm a long-time Vegas user for audio editing and mixing, but am now venturing into video territory with my new machine. One oddity that I've encountered and am hoping to find a solution for:

When using VV3's capture utility, viewing footage from a Digi8 Sony via iLink/firewire, the incoming audio crackles/pops/breaks up. The crackles "seem" to be related to large on screen movements [pans, cuts to new content, etc]. They are independant of preview screen size, etc. The audio problems are NOT present in the captured files. This does NOT happen when using the same Digi8 camera as an A/D converter for VHS either.

Machine:

Dell P4 2.4 gHz
Maxtor 80gb ATA 100 drive
512 MB RD RAM
NVidea GeForce TI 4200 AGP
ADS Pyro 1394 Firewire card
TurtleBeach Santa Cruz

This is obviously not a show stopper, but is annoying nonetheless.

Any ideas or common experience?

Thanks~

How is the audio after you've captured? I've found that the preview is often flawed while the capture is usually perfect.

I had the same problem on a PIII 866 speed system, so I just turned off the audio in the software and listened through the camera while capturing. On playback it was flawless 48Khz stereo--and that was through a Dazzle DV converter.

first, make sure that you have a good firewire cable. i had an old that i used to loop ina tight loop. that gave me capture problems. swapped cables and problem disappeared.

second, if you havent convert your drive to NTFS.

Same here with my dellPIII 866. jUST LIKE EDITOR3333 I also monitor audio from the camera speaker during capture. Also, when I disabled audio preview in vid cap it stopped dropping frames(they say it's best to have your computer doing as little as possible while capturing or printing because these are very CPU intensive processes)
