Audio cuts out during playback in VV4

When i am editing a video clip (30mins in duration) and play it back to se the FX or transition the audio cuts out after 3 - 5 secs of playback. Then I stop playback and re-start it and the sound is back on. Then it again cuts out after 3 - 5 secs. This keeps on happening all the time. The video playback is fine. Also print to tape is fine too. Shorter video clips (15mins or less) don't seem to have this problem.
It can't be my sound card drivers. The sound is fine in all other apps that use sound.
My computer is an 800MHz 133 128Mg RAM Win 2000 OS with 120Gig HD. The HD has 80 gigs free for editing.
I can not figure it out. Can anyone help?
Thanks.

You need more ram and another hard drive just for the OS. Check the DMA settings and you should have at least DMA 2 set on the hard drive. Your system is totally lugging down as more sound and video is loaded on the timeline. Think about maybe three hard drives, one for OS and V-4, one for temp files of V4, and one for everything else. Everything affects the speed
and from looking at your specs you have very little. I havea P4 with 1 gig and DMA 5 hard drives and if loaded it will start to chug.
