I've had similar problems -- both with audio & video. Once in a while the actual capture has artifacts. But, like you said, there are the occasional audio dropouts. It sucks, and I understand your frustration. A few things I've done have helped: turn off any anti-virus software and close down internet activity (if you're on a hi-speed modem). Other than that, I'm not sure what to tell you. I understand the frustration, though. (I had a print-to-tape that kept dropping out in the same place...until I tried to print it to a different part of the TAPE, then it took just fine...)
