Audio engine quality vs. ASIO etc.

I've slowly become aware that the sound of the files I bring into Vegas and mix together isn't quite as good as they could be.

Files generated in Reason sounded better there: is it the Asio engine?

A friend switched to Samplitude because he said that the sound of tracks mixed together was much better than Vegas or Acid.

I guess there's a lot of math in combining signal paths, and some do it better than others. I'm a huge Sonic Foundry fan; I wonder if they will improve the audio engine?

Just wanted to say that it would be great to have a discussion on the "accuracy" of the audio engines in the software-----or the accuracy of the math computations. No one ever seems to talk about it once it's past the design/programming people, nor do they usually know.

I have several simple editors (Sound Forge, DCArt 32 and Vegas) and there are many more out there like Cool Edit...etc. I wonder how they stand up in comparison, especially after doing some intensive file math?

I know what your saying' I would be Interested in the discussion as well I always though vegas and acid sounded great and then I started using fruityloops and nuendo and I couldnt belive the sonic diffrence in the sound files... so basically I would love to learn about whats actually going on inside that makes the diffrence
