Audio file is not showing the waveform

MyChain wrote on 6/12/2025, 11:54 PM

I have a problem where my audio file is not showing the waveform on the Timeline and Trimmer window.
When I go into the Preferences>General Tab, the Do not Creative .sfk file and Hide new .sfk file functions are not enabled.
Where do I need to change this to get Vegas to show the waveform again?

Note:
- I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it, but that did not fix the problem.
- In my Project Folder Vegas program doesn't create .sfk file.

Thanks
Chain

@MyChain Which folder did you put your footage files in?

This might be a privilege issue. For example, this folder requires administrator privileges, which means VEGAS Pro cannot create .sfk files in that folder.

You can try to:

  • Check "Do not create .sfk files to store peak data".
In fact, this option is not "not to create", but to place the .sfk files in the TEMP folder, which doesn't require administrator privileges.
  • Place your footage files in another folder that doesn't require administrator privileges, or remove the administrator privileges of this folder.

This computer is used by me and there is no administrator, and the problem occurs with all video files, audio files, music files, everything that is on the computer.

I have tried the method you suggested but it did not solve the problem.

Thanks

@MyChain Are you sure that the .sfk files are not created in the footage folder? Or did you just accidentally turn off the peak display?

Please check this:

Completed check.
But still can't solve the problem, I've read in a forum that tells how to reset the program to its original settings, but I don't remember how? Do you know how to reset the program?

Thanks
