Audio gets lost in 2nd half of rendered video

CeSa wrote on 9/10/2024, 3:36 PM

Hi all,

I am getting desperate now. Very strange observation with both versions VEGAS Pro 22 B 122 an 0.93. I have a longer travel video made with my DJI pocket 2 camera. Length of the video is approximately 1h. For the rendered video (using voucoder) from minute 30 I have no more audio. I made a next test with rendering just the audio part as wave file only with the same result: No audio for the last 30 minutes.

Was first thinking that this is an issue with my footage. Made further tests, but now focusing on the audio track only (i.e. neglecting the video and rendering as wav audio ony (under render as... Wave Microsoft, 48.000 Hz; 16 Bit).

Now I selected a loop region of a few seconds length in the latter half of the full video (the audio in this region was certainly lost during my full rendering tests). And surprise: The audio in the rendered loop region as wave file is there!

So, next test: I rendered the complete second half of the audio part (minute 30 to 60, again wave file only). -> No problem at all, audio is fully available.

That is really strange, do you have any ideas what causes this issue ??

Thanks and best greetings

CeSa

Could there be something in your timeline settings that is muting the audio, or reducing its volume?

Length of the video is approximately 1h.

Which is it? 1 hour? or 21 seconds?

Thanks for the answer. I already checked that if there could be a keyframe or anything else. But nothing. I mean, I can hear the audio track during editing without any issues

The whole project is 1h, I just have shown the MediaInfo Parameters of one of the events (see picture below). DO not get the wrong impression, actually I would desrcibe myself as a well experienced Vegas user (not professional though).

I made another test. Deleted the video track and rendered the remaining audio track only, again as wave file (see first figure). The result is the same. For comparison see both audio tracks, audio events before rendering vs the rendered audio event. Here you can see that the audio suddenly is lost...

CeSa wrote on 9/12/2024, 2:12 PM

Another (very interesting) finding which I have not realized yesterday. Befor the audio gets totally lost there are gaps ocurring (e.g. red higlighted ranges below)... Really strange.

CeSa wrote on 9/15/2024, 2:47 PM

I continued testing: This is definitely a Vegas 22 issue. Tested several video material (different occasions, all footage from the dji pocket 2) with both V21.208 and V22.122. No problems with V21 at all. But in V22 always after 50% of the time the audio drops. And starting with these gaps in the audio track before the sound completely disappears. What can I do now or where can I report this issue ? Can't believe that I am the only one having this issue with this cam.

jetdv wrote on 9/15/2024, 3:44 PM

@CeSa, I've just finished editing 14 projects containing all Pocket 2 footage (except for an intro an outtro clip.) I did not have any issues at all with audio on any of those projects in VEGAS Pro 22 (initial build or build 122). The projects were typically around 20 minutes in length each. Initially several had at least double the length of footage before trimming them down.

I have NOT seen any audio issues with footage from my Pocket 1 (over 3 years usage), Pocket 2 (about 1 year usage), or Pocket 3 (about 1 month usage) cameras (my next few projects will use the pocket 3 footage) in VEGAS Pro 22, 21, 20, 19, 18, ...

Hi JetDV,

thank you, that gives hope. Inspired by your posting I have reduced the rendering times step by step. And yes, I have also no issues if the total length is reduced to times lower than 30 minutes. But longer than that the audio track is a mess (see attached figure). Could you do me a big favour and just render the audio track (e.g. as wave file) for a project with say 40 minutes... That would be great...

jetdv wrote on 9/15/2024, 8:41 PM

Ok, 60 files. 56 minutes 54 seconds. Just dropped them on the timeline (at the current project settings - did not "match" settings) and rendered to a WAV file. I'm seeing no issues at all in the WAV file. It appears to match the original files just fine.

CeSa wrote on 9/16/2024, 2:14 PM

Many thanks for your efforts. Very strange behavior which seems to be related to something which I have to figure out. Performed some more tests on V21, without any problems at all. Tested also some older recordings from a different cam, here also everything is fine with V22. The problem occurs only with mp4 material from the dji pocket 2 in conjuntion with Vegas 22... Will think about more tests to find out what the problem is. Won't give up.... Thank you!

If it's a bug at the encoder stage it's possible Voukoder could help. Do you want to try rendering through it? Download the non-pro version and connector for your version of VEGAS.

Hi Roger,

Thank you for the hint. Actually, rendering with Voukoder was my initial step where I had identified this issue (but video and audio together). Anyway, I have followed your proposel (i.e. rendering audio only with Voukoder). The result is unchanged. No Audio after a certain time. By the way, the time where the audio drop happens is not consistent (and so the audio gaps). So it seems not related to a specific video file. And as already told: I have no issued with shorter renderings (up to approx. 30 minutes). And with Vegas 21 there is no problem at all for any lengths...

CeSa wrote on 9/18/2024, 4:25 PM

I am trying to nail the problem down. What I can say is that the final audio dropout is always accompanied by short dropouts which happen before the final dropout. To rule out the possibility of defect video events, in my next test I have just used 2 events which I have put into the timeline. I have repeatedly (alternating) both events until reaching the total lengths of 2h30mins. Now the audio drop out happens quite late (if compared to my first testst) at approx. 2h. The shorter drop outs are at approx. 1h53mins.

The next 2 figures show a zoomed view right where there drop out starts.

Jetdv has observed no issues until now which makes me thinking that this is related to my hardware. Maybe related to my RAM ? But on the other hand, the video itself is complete and has no problems. And the gaps and the dropout happen much earlier in my 1h video (at minute ~ 33) if compared to my 2h30 minutes video where the gaps and the dropout starts at ~ 1h 53mins. I have run out of ideas. What is the best way of contacting the magix support ? Or is Magix also active in the forum here ?

Hmm, so in that case something's going wrong before it gets to the encoding stage.

For support try going here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/support/options/ and open a case.

Hopefully they can figure out what's going on!

@CeSa It might also be worth comparing other settings...

@CeSa It might also be worth comparing other settings...

The settings in the audio device tab are identical. And I have attached also the other relevant setting tabs. If there is more relevant to compare please let me know...

CeSa wrote on 9/19/2024, 2:36 PM

I found something new during the rendering. See the video as attached. The rendering process after 50% incredibly speeds up (leading to the observed silent passages).

Leaving legacy AVC decoding uncheckes is an absolute nightmare with my system (AMD system with integrated graphics). Seems that is not (hopefully not yet) supported. Practically, Vegas 22 doesn't work at all with AVC decoding unchecked. But thank you for the hint...

Can you just do a render and report exactly what happens? Sooner or later it will be the only decoder for AVC so better to have any issues addressed now. Do make sure you're on a relatively recent Radeon Graphics driver.

Ok guys,

I found it. BTW in the meanwhile I contacted the Magix support referring to this thread. I hope they read it.

The right settings to get rid of the audio drops was - as a matter of fact - leaving the Enable legacy AVC decoding unchecked AND Hardware Decoder To Use Off

So this audio issue is solved, however, at the expense of the editing experience. My findings as follows:

Enable legacy AVC decoding = unchecked / Hardware Decoder To Use = AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics

  • Extremely stuttering prview window
  • Freezing preview windowd followed by a total crash
  • Preview window remains black
  • Rendering not possible at all (ends up in an instant crash)

Enable legacy AVC decoding = unchecked / Hardware Decoder To Use = Off

  • stuttering preview window, no freezes though
  • unsatisfying editing experience
  • renders out mostly fine though without the audio drop outs
  • experience crashes every now end then after rendering started (e.g. at 15%)

Enable legacy AVC decoding = checked / Hardware Decoder To Use = AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics

  • Smooth preview (all quality levels, up to best)
  • satisfying/responsive editing experience
  • however, rendered file faulty with audio drop out as mentioned in this thread

Thank you guys for your support/help. @Magix Team: Still some work to do I think. Ist this related to my AMD system with integrated graphics (latest driver 24.7.1) ? Let me know, if I can help and do some tests according to your instructions.

Thanks to you all...

Since you are in touch with Magix support please provide them all of this detail as well. When there is a crash is there an error report generated? If so you can also include your email and a link to this thread to help connect the pieces.

The MxCompound decoder should be able to playback your media and render without crashing!
