Audio Imbalance

ed-snape wrote on 11/4/2015, 11:23 AM
I have the left channel of a stereo pair on track 3 and the right channel on track 4, panned 100% left and right respectively. There is about 9 dB level imbalance. The original media is balanced. I have checked and rechecked pans, sliders, mutes, automation, and master channel settings and all appear correct. Sliding a stereo pair of events down to tracks 5 & 6 fixes the problem, but I sure can't discern why these tracks are different from 3 & 4. Any tips or suggestions will be much appreciated.

A screen shot would be very helpful.

If you right-click at the end of the Pan Slider, did you add the audio to the tracks with the same option? Verify Add Channels (0 db Center).

9 db is equal to one channel added at Balance (-3 db Center) and one channel added at Balance (-6 db Center) if they are panned in different directions.

Hi John,
All pans are at Add channels (0 dB Center)
Thank you for responding.

Thanks for your guidance on posting the screen shot.. Meanwhile, something spooky has happened. The volume slider on the mixer was suddenly up to + 12. When I brought it back to 0; the imbalance was corrected. I am sure that I had previously checked the sliders many times, but to reassure myself. I have a screen shot made a few minutes earlier which confirms that all sliders were at 0 at a time when the imbalance still existed. Any thoughts as to why the audio controls imagery seems so wacko? Windows 10?

Don't have VP13 or Win 10. Most of my 'unwanted' volume changes are 'pilot error' .. dragging the fader up/down or mis-selection and moving the scroll wheel .

Years ago, a sagely senior person that I worked with blamed things like this on "FM". The forum filters wouldn't allow me to spell it out.
