Audio Importing

Is Wav File audio the only kind I can import into my
project? I'm trying to import audio Stored in Windows
Media player 7.0 and Real Jukebox and my CD's. Why is it I
have to create WAV file instead of Mpeg or Real Meadia
Files?
I like the small sized files created in these other
formats. Any Help?
