Audio issue with Vegas 8

Hi,

I shoot 1080i using a Sony V1U and edit with Sony Vegas pro 8b build 217. After I’ve imported the m2t footage into my computer (Dell ADM 64/2gig memory, loads of disc space) I can play the video/audio from the time line and all is well. I then SOLO the audio timeline to find a SYNC point. Once I find the SYNC point I then MUTE that audio track and SOLO a different audio track to find that SYNC point. I then unMUTE/unSOLO both audio tracks.

Now my problem begins – if I go back either audio track I do not have any sound…I can see the waveforms but don’t hear a thing.

Any help/thoughts/suggestions will be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Pete

Check whether "Mute All Audio" on the Options menu has got selected by accident. Then check your audio device preferences and make sure you've still got your driver selected.

Failing that, maybe your volume got set to zero - check sound properties in your control panel

No idea...
Are you running any plugins?
What audio driver are you using?

I've had that happen to me just last week, required restarting Vegas to correct [don't know what sequence of commands preceded it]. It wasn't muting or volume settings, the audio just stopped playing.

I can hear it sometimes and then it stop being audible. Nothing changes between the 2 times.

There are many links in the audio chain - be sure to check them all...

--Event Gain (ASR) envelope
--Audio envelopes at the track level (volume or mute)
--Track volume, [bus volume,] master volume, system volume, speaker volume
--Disengage mute/solo buttons for all tracks, buses and master
--Make sure that Options>Preferences>Audio device is holding onto your preferred audio device, and that it is not defaulting to the wrong device for some reason.

Do you have any automation happening? Be sure that "Show automation controls" is disabled while you are muting and unmuting your tracks.

I would also recommend using either mute or solo. Using a combination of both is somewhat redundant in this case, and may be confusing the issue.

This happen all the time with Vegas and HDV / MXF. Having non realtime FXs in the audio chain such as wavehammer increases the incidence. Stop the T/L playing, wait a few seconds and start again and all is well. I get vision and sound seconds out of sync before the audio stops completely.
