Audio missing from clips - Please help!

martinw wrote on 8/15/2013, 8:30 PM
Hi everyone

I would love some help if possible. I am working on Movie Studio 9 and everytime I try and import some video from my camera it is missing the audio. This has been working fine for me for the past 6 months but only in the last 2 weeks has this happened.

The video from my camera is being uploaded as a .avi file but no matter what I seem to do the audio for the clips down not upload.

Any help you could offer would be great. Very frustrating

Cheers

Open one of those AVIs in G Spot or Media Info and post what it lists for its resolution, frame rate and audio and video codec.

I'm assuming this isn't miniDV footage captured over a FireWire connection.

& I am capturing from DV Tape on a Panasonic Video Camera. This has all worked fine up until a few weeks back and now no Audio.

VidCap has a preference that specifies whether to capture the audio or not. Is there any chance you accidentally turned this off?
martinw wrote on 8/15/2013, 9:51 PM
Hi Chienworks

Was a possibility, but I just checked that under Capture Preferences and the "capture audio"box is selected.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Does your video play with audio in Windows Media Player?
Have you checked "Ignore third party codecs" in Preferences?
martinw wrote on 8/15/2013, 10:17 PM
Hi

Just looked now and "Ignore third party codecs"is checked.

If I try and play the video I capture in Windows Media Player, it too is without audio.

I'm not sure what to do?

Capturing via Firewire?
Legacy 1394 drivers installed in Device Mangler?
martinw wrote on 8/15/2013, 11:42 PM
Capturing via USB.

I can't see Legacy 1394 drivers installed under Device Manager
martinw wrote on 8/15/2013, 11:45 PM
But I captured 40 hours worth of footage with the USB about 4 months ago with no problems and high quality.

Now it won't do audio. I just don't know whats going on!

You should never capture via USB. You never know what the camera is going to send down the USB port, which may be reduced quality, reduced resolution MPEG or some other codec. VidCap and Vegas may be given the wrong information about what is in the file and how it is encoded. The results can be unpredictable.

When capturing from a DV camcorder *ALWAYS* use firewire/1394.

USB capture, although it "sometimes" works with Vegas video capture, is not supported. One common problem is missing audio . . .

Get a firewire card for your computer or use the software supplied with your USB device. Trying to troubleshoot an unsupported method might take you a long time . . .

USB capture has been problematic for other software as well from posts I have seen in other forums. I have also seen the complaint that while they were able to capture, the resolution was very low. Just some comments I have seen elsewhere.

When trying to upload new footage with the capture footage button, it is capturing the footage but there is no audio or video showing now. Then when I click done to stop the capture, the video can be seen. And if I double click on the clip in the ”Clip Explorer” panel, both audio and video can be seen and heard just fine.

Then when I close the Capture screen down the video is uploaded in the Project Media section but once again as no Audio.

My second issue is.... when I start a new project or continue current projects the audio seems to get corrupted quite often. For example I may have a clip where someone is talking and then all of a sudden it takes a piece of Audio from another part of the project and burns it into the current audio section.

I have now fitted Firewire but the problem still persists

You're saying that you've recaptured your miniDV footage over a FireWire connection and you still have no audio?
musicvid10 wrote on 9/2/2013, 9:05 AM
Correct audio device selected in Vegas capture?
gpsmikey wrote on 9/2/2013, 10:19 AM
If you play it back in the camera, do you hear the audio there ?
