Audio Mixer Help

I'm confused on how to dynamically mix the volumes of audio tracks. With Adobe Premier's audio mixer one could adjust the sliders of the mixer controls and apply volume envelopes to the tracks easily and dynamically. Can one do this with Vegas 4? I was trying out all different combinations of the bus and volume envelopes, but it doesn't appear that one can dynamically change the shape of a track's envelope by moving the sliders up and down in real time? Am I incorrect, or do you have to alter volumes by physically adding points to the envelopes and using one's mouse to raise and lower each section. Certainly I understand that one can raise the entire volume of a track by using the volume tools, but how does one raise certain parts of the track without manually adjusting the envelope?

Thanks,

Marc

No, you can't adjust the audio envelope real time WITH the volume sliders. I thought that was a nifty feature of premiere too. But, what you CAN do is adjust the volume envelope REAL TIME without stopping playback. So, unlike premiere where you need to stop what you're doing when you want to make a change on the timeline, in Vegas you can set up a section to repeat, then adjust the envelope as it repeats.

You can also right click on the points and select a pre-set value, or you can enter in a value manualy.

So, this seems a bit impractical at times.

I am trying to mix a voice over track with a 20 minute rendered avi file from a finished vegas family movie project. Thus I have a main video track, a linked audio track and my new voice over commentary. I want to modulate the volume of my audio track to not block out the voice over.

Do I have to put tons of points on the audio envelope of the main audio track to control the envelope in any detail? It seems very laborious and complex. Is there a simple way to do this?

Thanks,

Marc

There's a script Roger74 wrote called Quick Envelope which inserts the four points and reduces the vol by an amount you can set. Not sure where it's available - you could try SundanceMedia.
