Audio Oddity - wav replaced by avi audio

Just when I thought I'd experienced everything .....

I have a voice over wav file sitting on the timeline.
It is called "F01 Same Principles", and has been sitting there for a week or so.
A coupla days ago I noticed that the waveform looked much smaller than it should, and when I played it, instead of playing the Voice Over it originally contained, it played the audio from an avi file in the same project. The avi file is named "A01 Jacob Wait Hand 001"
The original wav file in Explorer still sounded as it should, so I deleted the event and re-dragged the original to the timeline. Problem solved.

Except - next day when I opened the project, this event again had the audio from the same avi clip. Same remedy applied. Today, yet again, it had reverted to the wrong piece of audio. This time I added the correct clip as a Take, and so far it has stayed there. Toggling with T brings back the rogue clip, still bearing the identical name to the correct one.

Not by any means a big problem, but so strange that I wondered if anyone else had experienced something like this.

That is REALLY strange.

Update to this saga:
This evening after re-opening the project, the correct audio "take" I put there earlier has again been replaced by the avi audio, but it still bears the name of the voice over wav file.

The video clip that the "rogue" audio comes from is nowhere in the same vicinity - it is used only once, about 11 minutes earlier down the timeline.

I'll try rendering the correct clip as a new clip with a new name and see how it goes when I open it tomorrow....
