Audio only capture from DV (.avi) in MS

Can someone tell me how I can capture the audio from my camcorder?
I was a VideoWave user and just bought MS. MGI had an option on the capture that let me select only capture audio and create a .wav file.

Can I do that with this program? It seems much better than MGI and would think this is an easy one. (or is this where I need to go buy an audio editor, and if so would the audio editor capture from a DV .AVI input)

I have read throught about 200 posts after searching on "audio" and
this didn't jump out at me.

Thanks

First of all, Welcome to the forum!

I'm a former VW user my self, but I converted a couple of years ago to this line of software. I was using Video Factory, and now upgraded to Vegas. I don't ever want to think about those dark days when I was using the MGI products! You made a great choice with this editor, and this forum is a great bonus.

I'm not sure if you can capture audio only with MS (I don't have a copy of MS), but someone here will most likely jump in and give you your answer. My advise is to go to the support page and download the manual, and look for capture.

MS should be more than enough of an audio editor, in fact it is one of the strong points. MS is able to capture DV AVI input, and it should give you deck control right in the capture utility.

I had to get over a bit of a learning curve going from VW to VF, but it was way worth it. Timeline editing makes more sense to me than storyboard, plus the Sony line is rock solid stable!

Hope that helps some.

If you want to extract the audio I think you'll need an audio editor. Audacity works well, and it's free! In MS, go to Options / Preferences / Audio and you can specify the program to use as an audio editor - after that you can right click on the audio part of a clip and there's an option to edit it - Audacity will export as either a wav or an mp3.
