audio options for quicktime

i'm trying to save a multimedia (320x240) quicktime movie. i can't seem to find a way to get the audio portion to save as an mp3. just these other terrible sounding things. also, my h.264 codec which shows up in my list always fails. i'm using vegas 4 and have quicktime pro 7

been looking for this answer for a week now, sorry to post again.

i just downloaded a video online and in the view movie info in the quicktime player i see that the video is sorenson 3 and the audio is mpeg layer 3 mono - so now i know it can be done - how do i get mp3 as the audio format in my quicktime when i don't see it listed under audio formats?? the qdesign and other formats sound terrible.

also, can anyone give me some tips on converting DV footage (720x480, 0.9 aspect ratio) to decent quicktime for the web? (I'm using Vegas 4 btw)
