Why didn't you capture the VHS as as an.avi file(s)? Editing mpegs is not a good idea at all. It's already so highly compressed, anything you attempt to output will look awful--worse than VHS!

I didn't know that .avi would be the better initial capture. I'm learning all of this, mostly by trial & error...mostly error. So, all of my initial captures should be as .avis? The look isn't so bad...it's the sound being out of sync that's the problem. And, it doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes renders are perfectly in sync. Where do you learn stuff like the .avi info, especially when that seems to be the preferable option?

Taking the time to at least browse the manual is a good place to start. Secondly, you can do searches here in the forum for answers to questions--sometimes you find it, sometimes you don't.

The bottom line is that mpegs were never intended for editing. Always capture as .avi files, edit, then render out to mpegs if necessary, i.e., showing on the web.
