Audio out of Sync with ATI ALL-IN-ONE Wonder AVI's

Hi everyone,

Until recently all of my video work has been through capturing video over my firewire port direct from my camera. I have produed many videos for home use and never had a problem.

I recently purchased an ATI ALL-IN-ONE Wonder 9700 card to capture some old VHS tapes ( a great video card ). I can capture using this card in MPEG2 or AVI. I wanted to capture in AVI format so I could easily edit in VV4.0. In setting up the preferences in the ATI application I selected 'DV Video Encoder' for the capture. I am not sure if this is an ATI codec or the Microsoft codec.

Anyway, all of the captured AVI files when viewing in Vegas on the timeline or in preview mode have the audio out of sync by probably 500ms maybe as much as a second. If I view these same files in windows media player or the ATI player the audio is fine and in sync.

Captured files in MPEG format seem fine in VV4.0 but I would rather capture them in AVI using a DV codec to make editing a little easier.

Does anyone in the group or forum use the ATI card for Video capture? If you use an AVI setting what codec to you select? I am using the DV codec which I assume is Microsoft. but not sure.

Is it possible to use a DV codec on a non-firwire type input ( as is the case with the ATI card )?

What is puzzling is that the files play fine in all the other players but the audio is out of sync in Vegas. When looking at the properties for the video I see the following:

Video: 720X480X24
Field order - lower field first DV.
Audio 44Khz 16 bit Stero uncompressed.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Audio is at 44.1 rather than 48, there is clue 1. Second, ATI (I believe) uses Cinepak, which isn't all that hot to begin with. Third, ATI All in Wonders are famous for loads of problems at the DV level of things. Last, I could be incorrect, but I believe ATI uses Type 1 files, which Vegas absolutely accepts, but the 44k makes me wonder if a type1 and 44 are the problem.
So...
1. Try rendering a short portion out to see if the render converts to 48k properly.
2. reset prefs in ATI to be 48K
3. Have you tried to see if Vegas Vidcap can see the files from the ATI during capture? You won't have machine control, obviously, but may be able to capture that way.
