Audio Pan updated ?

Im using Win7(32b) and SMSv12,
Normally I can Pan L/R using the "Insert / pan" feature - but I noticed today the sound remains on the Left, despite the Level-meter showing a firm transition from L-R.
Have just had a load of Updates for my Computer from MS . . . has anyone else experienced this, or do I need to look elsewhere?
I checked ControlPanel and eventually found HDMI ( I use my TV as Monitor, with L/R audio from TV/headphone OP into a decent Amp+Speakers. As far as I'm aware this TV is working as normal....

I'm not blaming SMS . . . rather I wonder where else to look. The two Test-tones on "Control-pane l/ HDMI Audio" work OK yet doesn't tell you which speaker it is routed to, - however this test suggests it does separate L&R.

I'll try Rebooting PC . . . . ( and Delete this msg. if fixed. )
Also will try a Rendered film, which contains a strong L/R audio pan sequence. However, this doesn't go through the PC - so it only checks the TV + ext. Audio.

Any thoughts?

You say that the audio level meter is indicating that your audio pan is working.

If that's the case, then it is working.

What indicates to you that it is not?

Thanks Steve, it was a "hearing- it" issue . . . .which I resolved a few minutes ago....by playing a Rendered foley-sound of brid-flight as the little perisher managed to get into a panned sequence. I thought this would still work OK with the "beating wngs" following the action across the screen....but it was very muddled.

I checked the AV Amplifier ( Also Sony!), and it was in "Surround Sound" mode ( but only 2-speakers connected, so I guess some time ago the cleaner has accidently pressed a button when the amp was left on ( Normally disconnected overnight along with the TV/DVD?etc.).

Perhaps I should have mentioned, that I was not hearing any change L/R despite the SMS Level-Meters indicating I should !

Thanks for yr Q. - Thankfully, the situation is FIXED.

Sadly the Test-Tone provided in Win7 is far too short to get to the speakers when there is a problem . . . I guess it was designed by someone that was close to the speakers so having to move around chairs, tables etc wasn't an issue in an office environment. Giving the User ~1Sec isn't enough. If I was writing the software, I'd insert the Option of 1,3,10 seconds - and I'd put on-screen to which speaker the Tone was being sent.
The Tones are different, but far too short.
Fault-finding isn't an exact Science and needs care when attempting - when the system is "OK" is easy, but it's when it's wrong you need the best fault-ID possible.
I think this is the first time I've needed to check Speakers from the Operating System . . . so excuse me if I'm unfamiliar with the subtleties of the Testing.

Thank-you.
