Audio "Pops/Glitches" on DVD

Has anyone encountered any Audio problems with DVD Architect pro 5.0?

I am working on a Music DVD for retail release that will contain two Audio Only High-Resolution 24-bit/96kHz bonus tracks in addition to the DVD video portion of the DVD.

Each song is linked to its own menu page so that when a user uses their remote to select each track the DVD menu goes to the page associated with that particular audio track. There are no animations on the menu pages, just text and an image plus the background. Each high-resolution audio track plays perfectly but at the end of the track there is a loud "pop" that occurs that is definately not on the 24-bit/96kHz mastered audio track.

At first I set the menu so that the audio track would play through one time only and then stop after the song ended and wait for the user to select another menu. I then went back and set the menu command so that the audio would loop and would continue to repeat until the user selected another menu thinking that this might eliminate the loud "pop" sound at the end of the track. That didn't work and the "pop" is still there.

Since I am certain that my 24-bit/96kHz audio files are not to blame and have no "pops" in them I am certain that there is something in DVD Archiect that is causing this to happen.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem before and if so how do I get rid of the "pop" at the end of my audio track?

Thanks.

Paul

I don't know that there's a value in using those 24-bit/96khz songs in DVD Architect, Paul. They're just going to get re-encoded down to AC-3 Dolby Digital anyway. (Although Pro should be able to encode at up to twice that sampling rate.)

So it could be that you're just overloading the program and the pop is coming from a down-conversion.

It could also be that your supporting software is out of date. The program does require the latest version of Quicktime to work (even if you aren't editing Quicktime files).

Your computer also has audio drivers that support the program, the most common of which are Realtek HD audio drivers. The latest should be downloaded from the RealTek site, even if your computer is brand new. Outdated RealTek drivers commonly cause pops and clicks in soundtracks.

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your response.

First off, there is definately a reason to use 24-bit/96kHz audio on my DVD. The sound quality is much better than the compressed DD AC-3 files. My original source files for the two audio tracks are high quality and have both been mastered at 24-bit/96kHz as well.

DVDA will NOT re-encode them because I have set my Project Properties setting to be 24-bit/96kHz and the Optimize Disc option confirms that no re-encoding or compression of my 24-bit audio files is taking place.

My video content is only 30 minutes and as such I'm only using about 40% of my DVD's space so I have more than enough room for adding 24-bit/96kHz High-Resolution files.

The audio soundtrack for the video portion of my DVD is DD AC-3 by the way as that audio is not of the same quality as my two audio only tracks and in this case DD AC-3 works just fine.

I also do have the latest version of Quicktime installed and updated as of two days ago.

As it turns out, I believe that the culprit here is not DVDA but one of my older DVD players. I've since played my DVD on another DVD player and no "pops".

Thanks again.

Paul

I sometimes get the same thing when I switch from one item with one type of audio (for example a menu with AC-3 stereo) to one with a different type of audio (AC-3 5.1). Damned annoying, but it can happen whether I'm using a DVD I burned myself or a commercial pressed one.

You might be able to fix the problem by checking the settings for that player. Look around for settings do with audio conversion, bitstreams, or how it handles PCM, that sort of thing. Or maybe even just switching to a higher grade of cables might do it.
