A few weeks ago Farss mentioned "Audio Postproduction for Digital Video" by Jay Rose, and I've bought a copy.
Most of you will be familiar with the work, but for those who aren't it really is valuable. Easy to read, transparent technical explanations, great tips on best approaches. Anybody working in this area for any length of time will already know the most of the stuff in early chapters and probably will have learned by experience a lot of the rest, but lessons learned out of experience aren't always soundly based technically. The included CD provides a lot of practical examples to drive home the knowledge. I agree with Bob that this is essential reading for novices and I'll add that it is a useful reference for others. Recommended.
